The image of a size zero models can have a negative impact on a large section of our society, by persuading women and men that this is the type of body they should respectively aim for and desire. On the other hand it can be argued that models should not be discriminated against, also that a ban on size zero would be difficult to implement due to the number of designers who prefer their clothes to be seen on this body type. This essay will discuss which choice we should be making. Size 0 is the UK equivalent of a size 4, and constitutes a waist measurement of a 22 inches which is comparative to a 9 year old girl. The average size for a woman from the UK is 12-14 (30- 32” waist). That’s a staggering 8” difference. ‘Imagine being so slim that walking down the catwalk and all the audience notice are the clothes, not the model’ said by a writer from one of the high street magazines. So thin that you bones start to crumble inside you, with your skin so pale making your ribs clearly visible. Recently there has been a debate whether or not we should ban size zero models in the fashion industry. ‘Size zero’ is the topic I intend to argue against.

The first vision you get when the words ‘Size zero’ is said you think of a person starving themselves to the bone making them look weak , making it hard for them to walk. Many people are against the idea of size zero, not just because it’s unhealthy, but because it looks unattractive. The models themselves may feel good about the look of their bodies but people not known them look at them just seen tightly pulled skin over bones, poor skin, limp hair and a lifeless personality. There are so many reasons as to why size zero models are sought after in the fashion industry, mainly because there ‘exist designers who believe that their clothes will appear to their best advantages on smaller frames’ said by an article from a radio station.
